Nikon announces D90
On 26th August 2008, Nikon announced D90, a mid-range DSLR that is able to record HD video. It was exactly two years ago when its predecessor D80 was announced.

- 12.3 megapixel CMOS sensor
- ISO 100-6400
- HD720p video capture (w/ audio)
- Face Detection System
- 3″ LCD 920,000 pixel resolution
- 11-point AF
- 96% viewfinder coverage
- HDMI output
The selling point is definitely the world’s first DSLR with movie recording function. Otherwise, the new sensor with great high ISO handling, great AF and large 3″ LCD are those that is identical to what you could have found in D3/D300/D700.
The game between Canon and Nikon has been going on since long ago, and the heat has seem to grow intensely recently when both Canon and Nikon aggressively introducing new DSLR models. Both players have their own game strategy. While they are still (or pretending to be) playing on their own court, I don’t see peace game in near future.
However, I personally think that healthy competition will benefit all parties, especially the consumers like us. We want to see improvements in DSLR technology. We want to see price drops. We want to see more choices.
So, Canon or Nikon? Still too early to say.
If you need to make a decision right at this moment, I would say set your budget (or you will end up in a never ending Buy-Buy-Buy, BBB, game!), and spend some time at your favourite (friendly) camera shops to try them out!
My golden rules is to buy the one that you love.
It is only if you love it, then you will accept its good and bad as a whole.
