Penang Island, Malaysia

I live in Singapore and my brother in Penang Island, Malaysia.
We are both from Kota Bharu, Kelantan Malaysia.
We are both living on islands now.
Last week I had a chance to meet up my brother and parents at Penand Island, Malaysia. Our family is so small that we can actually arrange our meet up anywhere other than our hometown, at any given time.
I was exposed with Penang Island’s culture on my 5 days visit there. It is somewhat similar to Singapore since they’re both islands, except that Penang Island has more hills and mountains which obstruct much on infrastructure and accomodation development.
The contrast between the rich and the poor is obvious. Seen from this picture taken from 16th floor, you can see all the buildings you will likely be seeing in Penang Island. From the almost-million-dollar condominium (seen from the furthest), to over-million-dollar terrace houses and bungalows, to the apartments and flats, to the old wooden kampung-style houses.
Penang Island is known for their food. Penangies are so proud of their food, which in a way I have to agree with. Penang char-kuey-teow, Penang laksa are two signature food that you can find at everywhere else in the world. Good food makes happy tummies.
There are a few tourism spots too, like Kek-lok Temple, Bukit Bendera are among the two famous ones, not forgetting about Batu Feringgi.
I may not know much about Penang Island, but if you have more insights on Penang Island, please share with us!

i like how u say, both living on islands
i love both singapore and penang. i think penang is now finding its path back to be a global city…
i love it for its many wonders – from beautiful scenery to its heritage georgetown. the beach.
but a lackdown is that business esp consumer products biz, is not so thriving there compared to like kl. but now, i believe its changing – and that is getting better
have always liked penang, for its charms. i still remember my trips there when i was young. there’s a very old guan yin temple next to the “zhong hua da hui tang”. last time every year i will ask my parents to drive us up so that i can pray there. my first wish was realised when i was competing 全国华乐比赛 (cant remember the exact name). i told guan yin to let me win a prize in finals, a second place will suffice. and it did happen! haha. tell u more when we have time.
